032625. Wednesday. NYC.
Notes from Wednesday:
I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Willy Chavarria and his team. My friend Dinneth work with the person who was in charge of interviewing Willy, and she was so kind to let me know about this event in advance. Willy seems to be a very down to earth creative, which I truly appreciated. It was gratifying to hear him speak about the different ways he struggled in the fashion ‘corporate world’ and how that all lead to find his niche and subject as a designer.
After the event, my friend’s parents drove us all to Los Tacos no. 1 on Bleeker and Lafayette. I had never gone here -nor planned to- but being there with Dinneth and her family made me give Los Tacos a second chance, and with it a new meaning, which now makes me want to go back.
032725. Thursday. NYC.
Notes from Thursday:
Before 2023, I had no idea that cherry blossom trees only displayed their beautiful pink flowers for a limited time. Last year, someone I knew took me on my first cherry blossom walk. All I could think about was how much she had talked about these trees and how seemingly special they were to her.
We went to a particular spot in Central Park — the name escapes me — where clusters of cherry blossoms embellished the scenery like blush on a face. The usual green and grey tones of the ground shifted to a soft pink and white, and as we got closer, our steps grew increasingly slippery. My camera was left at home that day — I think — but mentally, I believe it’s one of the times I’ve taken the most pictures.
A year later, while dropping off a package in the Upper East Side, I remembered reading about the cherry blossoms on Roosevelt Island. As I waited for my watch to strike five, I found my thoughts drifting back to that day. I’m grateful to have been introduced to the beauty of these trees; this knowledge has grown into a joy that feels similar to seeing my family.
The season is just beginning, so I hope to encounter more blossoms soon. For now, I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do. After all, as another friend once told me, “Spring is the real New Year celebration.”
032825. Friday. NYC.
Notes from Friday:
I truly had no desire to go outside and take pictures today. It wasn’t until I got to talk to the couple in the second image that I realized that there is some degree of ‘magic’ in what I’m working on. The way that woman smiled once I shared with her what I was working was something out of a really good book. Her and her friend’s (?) interest in my photos and website helped me think of the innocence, curiosity and excitement my heart pounded out to my body when I started this project. I was the bump in the back I needed to keep going.
If the people captured in photo #2 are reading this, THANK YOU!
(Later on in the week I would find out that two people I consider Artistic References: Lily and Caitlin, have enjoyed and/or been inspired by my on-going project, this meant a world and a half to me.)
032925. Saturday. Prospect Park.
Notes from Saturday:
– I like riding my e-bike places, my friends called it a motorcycle.
– I should not play soccer with Cowboy boots.
– Ruth and Ash’s hairstyles compliment each other beautifully.
– Dorian is hilarious, and I wonder what would happen if he wrote comedy.
– Olivia can make a vegan baked good taste beyond great.
– People like what I baked.
– Yanai and Julia love print based subscriptions.
– I HIT A DOG WITH A SOCCER BALL BY ACCIDENT. GOD FORGIVE ME.
– If you’re ever in Prospect park and need a Bathroom, go to the Public Libary.
– Marlena’s Sketches are very interesting to me.
– Sami and Peter can basically backflip. I need to learn that.
– When I look at this many people laying in the floor being slowly cooked by the sun they hadn’t seen in months, all i can think of is Sardines being poured out of a dark can to then be fried.
033025. Sunday. NYC.
Taking my portrait is something I’ve always had ‘Beef’ with. Today, as I was cleaning and clearing my apartment I snapped these, I thought the background and setting looked somewhat cool.
Thank you for reading!
